How to Replace a Wand Tilt Mechanism in a Common Mini Blind

Wand tilt mechanisms for mini blinds are used in 1/2 inch, 1 inch, or 1 1/2 inch blinds to rotate the slats on the blind open and closed. This guide will show you step-by-step about how to replace a tilt mechanism on your mini blind.

Tools Needed

Needle Nose Pliers
Tape Measure

Step 1 – Prepare for the replacement.

  • Remove the blind from the window and lay it on a flat surface.
  • If the wand is still attached to the tilt mechanism, remove it and set it aside.
  • With pliers, remove the rail end stiffeners on both ends of the headrail.

Step 2 – Remove the old tilt mechanism.

  • Slide the tilt rod free from the tilter, but do not slide it out to the drums.
  • Remove the old tilt mechanism by slightly spreading the headrail and then pulling it up and out of the headrail.

Step 3 – Install the new tilt mechanism.

  • Install the new tilt mechanism. Make sure that it is firmly seated in the headrail.
  • Slide the tilt rod through the new tilt mechanism.

Step 4 – Test your repair.


Step 5 – Reattach the end stiffeners and wand.

  • Install the new tilt mechanism. Make sure that it is firmly seated in the headrail.
  • Slide the tilt rod through the new tilt mechanism.
