How to Set a Tilt Mechanism with an Internal Clutch

Video ID: 401052

Introduction

Tilt mechanisms with internal clutches are designed to prevent the over-rotating of the mechanism’s gear causing premature part failure. This feature is available in some tilt mechanisms for mini, wood, faux wood, and Venetian blinds. Before installing a tilt mechanism with an internal clutch, it’s critical to set the gear properly so that the part will fully open and close the slats on your horizontal blind.

Parts Needed

Step 1 – Rotate the tilter shaft to find the gear’s center point.

  • Find the center point of the internal gear by rotating the tilter shaft all the way in one direction until it reaches the clutch and stops.
  • Make a note of the stopped position.

Step 2 – Rotate the tilter shaft in the opposite direction.

  • Rotate the tilt mechanism in the opposite direction.
  • Make a note of the stopped position.
  • You may have to manually rotate the tilt mechanism by grabbing the tilt rod hole to get the gear to engage.

Step 2 – Set the tilt mechanism.

  • Set the tilt mechanism hole exactly halfway between the two stopping points.
  • Now, you’re ready to install the tilt mechanism into your blind.
