Changing the String in a Cord Tilt Mechanism on 2″ Horizontal Blinds

Introduction

The string on a cord tilt mechanism can be changed. Sometimes, it may wear out or break. Perhaps it needs to be changed so it will match your blind. Changing the cord is pretty simple following the steps on this guide. Most cord tilt mechanisms on wood, faux wood, and Venetian blinds use about 10 feet of 1.4mm cord.

Parts Needed


Step 1 – Remove the old string from the cord tilt mechanism.

  • Cut a new piece of string three times as long as the needed drop length.

Step 2 – Tie a knot in the middle of the string.


Step 3 – Insert the string into the hole on the spool of the cord tilt mechanism.

  • Center the knot.
  • Wrap one string one way around the spool.
  • Wrap the other string the other way around the spool.

Step 4 – Insert the strings through the guides on the base of the cord tilt mechanism.


Step 5 – Test the tilt mechanism by pulling on each string and making sure the spool moves.
